Using USB drives in Volumes / Applications?

Using USB drives in Volumes / Applications? My RAID-5 fills up all 4 bays on my TS-419P+ wiht 3.8.3. Can I use external USBs for iSCSI / Time Machine backups? Right now it will only let me select the current raid 5 volume for those and when I try to create a single disk volume the USB drives are not listed.
