Backing up locked/open files on Windows

Backing up locked/open files on Windows I have started to experiment with BackupPC to replace CrashPlan on our home network. I would now like to understand the status with reference to open/locked files - can BackupPC back these up from a Windows machine? I thought when I chose rsyncd as the method that this would allow locked files to be backed up, but now I am not so sure.
