Symbolic links to external eSata not supported for *Station?

Symbolic links to external eSata not supported for *Station? I have symbolic links in my Multimedia folder pointing to external eSata drive media folder. Photo Station will not recognize (display) those symbolic links. Why? This used to work with previous Qnap versions. Odly enough, samba works fine for those same symbolic links from Mac Finder but not AFP.
