How to simply access the NAS remotely

How to simply access the NAS remotely I have a TS-869L (latest firmware) - connected to a Virgin Superhub router. I also have a Mac Pro connected directly to the Virgin hub. I can access the NAS drive when I am on site, on both the Mac Pro and wirelessly on my Macbook air. However, whenever I am out of the office and try and connect I just cannot.
