Map drive, delete folders and add to library?

Map drive, delete folders and add to library? First, is there a way to map the main drive/root folder in Windows 7? Googling but haven't found an answer. Second, is there a way to actually delete (not hide) default folders? The posts I have found indicate it is not possible but I just want to make sure. If they are not in fact deletable, why?
